WHY STUDY THE BIBLE

Don Grommesh

The Bible Love Story between God and His people continues this fall with the final book in the Bible, “The Book of Revelations”.

As previously noted, we have traveled through the historical part of God's Word starting with His beautiful relationship with Adam and Eve.  This "Love" that God was pouring out to them was rejected by their pride (their trusting the Devil and not God).  We studied all about God's patience trying to teach the people to trust Him and Him alone all through the Old Testament.

As promised to Adam, we read in the New Testament how God sent his Son to restore the "Tree of Life" through the Eucharist -- now called the "Bread of Life".   He put an end to the devil's hold on His people by paying the price for our sin.  In doing so, He showed us how to live in the "spirit" (LOVE) of the law instead of the "letter" of the law.

We completed the Gospels with Jesus having established the Church with Peter as its head.  His last instructions before His Resurrection were for us the Church to teach the rest of the world all the commands he gave us.   He gave us the tools to do this with His written Word (the Bible) and the guidance of the Holy Spirit working through the Church (the Catechism).  This is what we are trying to do with these Bible Sessions -- trusting in God to give us the courage to learn and spread the Good News that He gave us.

We continue with our sessions now studying the Book of Revelations.   This is probably the most misunderstood book in the Bible. Yet, it is probably the most beautiful and most revealing.  We are here to learn how Jesus reveals himself as part of the Trinity (the Liturgy of the Word) and how we the Church are his bride (the Liturgy of the Eucharist) at Mass.

If you want to love God, you need to get to know him – this is what Bible Study is all about.  Check the Sunday Bulletin for dates and times.
