My Dear Parishioners,
Welcome to Spring. Please enjoy each day God is giving us with your prayer, fasting and alms giving during this Lent. Again, no red meat on Fridays during Lent. Stations of the Cross booklets are available in the back of the church for anyone to use any day and time. If you would like, you can join our school children as they pray the Stations every Friday at 2:30pm in church. Don’t forget to attend our Knights of Columbus fish fry on Friday, April 1st starting at 5pm. Parish penance service will be Sunday, April 10th at 4pm, in church with guest priests. DMI (Disciple Maker Index): The DMI survey will be launched diocesan-wide on April 1st. All Catholics, 18 and older, are asked by our Bishop to take this survey about his/her Catholic way of life in their parish. It’s an anonymous online survey that takes about 10-15 minutes to complete. This data will be combined with other parishes in the diocese, to be presented to the conference of Catholic bishops in America. Of course, I will get to see this information to help me as the pastor. More details will be coming. Heating & Air: The process has been slower than I expected due to the long demolition and the time needed to figure out more concretely how things should work and the laying out of the transformer, and where the 12 heating units best sit to connect to the current duct work, after the old blower system and pipes were removed. There will be 12 heating units inside and 12 air units outside and they all will be connected to a special blower system to send the heating or air into the church through the duct works. The duct is underground running along the walls of the church. We are working with what we have, and we are moving along. I love you all, Fr. Hien My Dear Parishioners,
Are you ready for Spring? Yes, the season of Spring is here. The good weather is here too. May we always trust in God and try our best every day to love one another as He taught us. Let us remember the blessings and love God has bestowed upon us, our families, and our country. So sad for Ukraine and its people. They are living in fear, in danger and facing death. Please keep praying the Hail Mary to end the war there and to stop the killing of innocent people throughout the world. Lent: Please remember not to eat red meat on Fridays during Lent. Stations of the Cross booklets are available in the back of the church for anyone to use at any day and time. If you would like, you can join our school children as they pray the Stations every Friday at 2:30pm in church. Confessions are heard before every weekend Mass. Parish penance service will be Sunday, April 10th at 4pm, in church with guest priests. DMI (Disciple Maker Index): The DMI survey will be launched diocesan wide on April 1st. All Catholics, 18 and older, are asked by our Bishop to take this survey about his/her Catholic way of life in their parish. Heating & Air: The electrical for the old system was disconnected to remove the asbestos pipes and the blower system. It really took a long time to carefully and safely cut the old system into pieces due to its super-size, wall to wall, full of pipes. What is next is to update the electrical panels and the old electrical transformer. This is a major and expensive work. I was told that the electrical transformer has been long overdue for decades. We will need to add a new gas line for the heating. I hope you enjoyed your kids and grandkids as they were on their spring break this past week. They are precious to us. I love you all, Fr. Hien Chaplain: Our parishioner, Vanessa Banh, a former chaplain for Via Christi, would like to volunteer her time for spiritual and emotional support. If you would like support such as prayers, words of encouragement, a compassionate listener, please contact her at 250-9147 Mon—Thurs, 1-5 p.m. All Saints’ Parishioners,
Thank God for this day and all the days of our lives. Please know that as long as we live to love and to serve our Lord, we will never die. Thanks be to God who loves us all eternally and has prepared a special place for us in heaven for our eternal life with Him. Again, Fridays during Lent, please abstain from all meat. During Lent, please do your prayers, fasting and almsgiving for the love of God and for your salvation. 40 days of Lent can help you to be faithful disciples of Jesus and be that “good and faithful” steward for God. Heating and Air Project: Companies are working on different jobs such as shutting down the old system (electrical), removing asbestos pipes and cutting to remove the 12x14 steel blower system. For all these years, the heating and cooling came from the powerhouse, located south of the gym. The pipes are under ground that transport the heating and cooling to the church. This big blower in the church sent hot or cold air into the church. Altar Society: Congratulations to our altar society for being able to resume their ministries, especially serving meals to funeral families. Also, they were able to hold their annual retreat last Saturday. It sounds like they really enjoyed the retreat and the great food. Again, all ladies in the parish are welcome to join their ministry. All of them are still young at heart and fun to be around. Knights of Columbus Fish Fry: this Friday, March 11th in the Fischer Center starting at 5pm, everyone is invited to attend our annual fish fry. I was told that they will serve Vietnamese food too. Please know that our Knights want to serve everyone and to make everyone happy by doing this for us. Please come and support them this Friday and on Friday, April 1st. Congratulations to Jeff Logan who was elected as our new Grand Knight. I am looking forward to serving our parish with Jeff and enjoying his specialty in smoking meats. Happy pastor, happy parish, don’t you think? Blessed are those who live happily, for they will sleep well like a baby every night. I love you all, Fr. Blessings from our Lord be with you all. God is good and we are blessed to have each other. Since I have been at All Saints, I have seen the many blessings to our church and school through the many good hands and hearts of our parishioners, visitors, and employees. This really makes me joyful and happy for our parish and I know that it does the same to you. Last fall, an anonymous family wanted to help All Saints, by replacing the current old, unreliable, original heating and air system of our church. We have had many problems with this antique system. There were many times we had no heating or air conditioning during Masses, not to mention the super loud bangs it makes when the blowers are out of balance. You also have heard me say in church, “I wish that we had a new heating and air system for our church.” Guest what, my wish is becoming a reality, thanks to this anonymous family who heard my prayer in church and responded generously for the love of God and us all, especially for the students of All Saints. Our students come to church every day to pray as a class, to practice cantoring and readings for Mass, and of course to attend Holy Mass. I always enjoy celebrating Holy Mass with them and seeing them in church praying. I love our faith-filled students and teachers. This project to replace the heating and air conditioning system will begin Monday, March 7. Please join me in praying for favorable weather for the next few weeks. Most likely we will not have heat in church during this time, so please dress appropriately so you will not be so cold if the weather is freezing cold outside (I hope it isn't). All weekend Masses will be held in church, hot or cold, daily Masses will be held in the chapel; of course, we have heat in the chapel. Please enter the chapel from the chapel door only. Do not come to the main entrance/foyer area as the workers will need this space. We are hoping for warm weather, a smooth demolition and installation with no obstacles. Thank you for understanding, and please be patient during this time. I will surely keep you posted. Finally, Fridays during Lent, please abstain from all red meat. During Lent, please do your prayers, fasting and almsgiving for the love of God and for your salvation. 40 days of Lent can help you be faithful disciples of Jesus and that “good and faithful” steward of God. I love you all, Fr. Hien |
